The cellar built of red brick local production with the use of blocks of limestone for the foundation of the device. White stone blocks used as a facing material. To erect a semi-circular arch were built inside the scaffolding and centering. The cellar is a rectangular building, with adjacent entrance vestibule, covered semi-cylindrical vault, the outer part of which gable. To reduce the spreading out a set of longitudinal walls built buttresses. The walls of the cellar doubled, between them are arranged ventilation ducts connected to the windows airhole. Windows airhole located around the perimeter walls, air flows through them circulated between the walls, falling into the cellar, thus avoiding the sharp temperature difference between inside and outside the cellar, and, consequently, of the condensate. Inside the walls at the windows airhole made of stone walls, a protection against the penetration of anyone in the cellar of a random projectile, bullet or torch, which could drop to undermine the powder magazine. The floor in the room is laid in herringbone "red brick on edge (for strength) in the sand. This cellar survived to present time.

Inside were arranged in wooden racks, which were stored barrels with gunpowder. . . . And all its gunpowder, placed 3,668 poods = 60 t.

Such cellars were in the fortress of four, but the buildings in the bastion of St. Peter, Polugarnom bastion, and the right Alekseevskie gates - have not survived.

Powder cellar - is a kind of pantheon, - stores objects associated with the personality of Emperor Peter the Great, the beginning of the glory of which is connected with the Azov fortress.
